Beginners Running Group

Running is a great way to get fit and lose some weight! If you’ve always liked the idea of running a 5K, but have never felt brave enough to give it a go, then read on!!!

I’m about to begin leading a Beginners running group in association with Run In England. RIE has been developed to get more people running in the build up to the Olympics and gives you fantastic way of doing that.

It will be a 10 week course, every Sunday morning starting at 10am. I am designing a training plan which will develop the group’s base fitness, strength and speed. This is designed for beginners in mind and I like to think of it as ‘Couch to 5k,’ as the last session will end with a timed 5K run. This will be your PB (personal best) and you are more than welcome to join the next group to try and beat that.
The official name for the group is the Highgate Harriers Running Group. I have been working with the Highgate Harriers Athletics Club now for 4 months and have just qualified as a Coaching Assistant with the UKA (UK Athletics). We’ve been working towards putting this group together for quite a few months now and I’m really excited to start the first group on the 17th April 2011.

The weekly session will be made up of runs through Hampstead Heath, track work on the Parliament Hill Athletics track and some strength & conditioning. If you haven’t done any of these then please don’t panic! I will teach you from the basics up and will ask you to go away and do some work through the week to keep on top of it.

I plan to give you the tools to improve your running fitness and overall health. For those who love it and really excel you can have the opportunity to join a session at Highgate Harriers and really see if you can push yourself.

If you would like to take part, you can check out the Highgate Harriers Running Groups page at Run In England. You have to become a member of Run In England – There are two types: a Free and Premium Membership. It tells you more about this at the RIE page.

The best thing about this course is its only £20. That’s £2 a session, what a bargain! This will be a fantastic course and loads of fun. Please feel free to email me for more information.
